The IIES is a research institute at Stockholm University founded in 1962. Its main objective is to produce outstanding research with maximum international impact. Research at the IIES covers political economy, macro, climate change and the economy, economic development, mass media, and the labor market.

  • The housing boom and bust in the U.S. 2019-10-07 IIES Associate Professor, Kurt Mitman's paper has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Political Economy. Ahead of publication, Kurt shared his thoughts on future research on the topic, as well as explained his paper further.
  • Jonna Olsson has successfully defended her thesis! 2019-10-07 Jonna's thesis reflects her interest in the branch of macroeconomics referred to as heterogeneous agent models and her belief in the need to analyze individual behavior and not only aggregates when trying to understand many economic issues.
  • Serena Cocciolo has successfully defended her thesis! 2019-10-04 On 23 August, Serena Cocciolo, successfully defended her thesis "Participatory Governance and Public Service Provision". Many thanks to Michelle Brock (EBRD) for acting as opponent!
  • Peter Nilsson to publish in JPE 2019-09-24 Peter Nilsson's paper "Understanding How Low Levels of Early Lead Exposure Affects Children's Life Trajectories" (joint with Hans Grönqvist and Per-Olof Robling) has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Political Economy (one of the top economics journals in the world).
  • Successful thesis defense for IIES graduate student Matti Mitrunen! 2019-09-06 This afternoon graduate student Matti Mitrunen successfully defended his thesis "Essays on the Political Economy of Development"
