Gustavo received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2021 and he will join the Chicago FED in 2022. He is an applied macroeconomist with a special interest in labor economics and development. In his research, he uses micro-data and causal inference to identify important parameters of macroeconomic models and derive policy implications. In his current work, he is estimating the externality and distributional effects of innovation policy in Brazil. But he has also worked on understanding the aggregate effect of import tariffs, the political-economic determinants of redistribution, and the characteristics of optimal unemployment insurance.
